Thinking and Determination are key to SUCCESS (sort of revised)

I specifically remember a moment where my friend and I realized what we could do to fix a problem. To explain what happened, I need to describe exactly what was going on. As I had said before I play a card game called WWE Raw Deal. There are things about it that make it similar to other games, but this game is more strategic than say Magic the Gathering and those games. This game takes lots of planning to make things work. You need to really read cards and find out ways to use them to your advantage. Sometime these ways of taking advantage are very obvious, while other times it takes lots of thinking and studying.

While for waiting for a new card set to come out last year, my friend Javier and I realized a new problem. The problem came about when a "new" wrestler was introduced into the game (I say new because he had never had any cards for him in the game before). The wrestler that was introduced was Andre the Giant. If you are familiar with wrestling, even the slightest bit, you've probably heard of him and knew he was huge (over 7 feet tall and over 500 pounds). We knew that the game developers wanted to show that just in how he was made. His "ability" alone could end the opponent's turn and make you discard cards and both of those things are not good at all.

On the day of the tournament that I mentioned before, Javier and I felt very weird. We had dominated the tournament scene in the area, but today we felt as though we would not do so well. We had sat down and pondered the many possibilities that could go wrong, and could not come to one single conclusion that we could not avoid. The one thing we forgot to even consider was, you guessed it, Andre.

One of the better players in the area just HAPPENED to play an Andre deck in the tournament. In the back of my mind i was thinking that if Javier played him first then he could tell me what to watch out for. However, as luck would have it I was the first person to play him. It wasn’t looking to well for me. Of course I lost the match due to the whole "end my turn and discard cards" ability. Javier as well lost and we both became frustrated.

On the way home we were talking and trying to find a solution to get rid of this ability. As we talked about all the possibilities we could not come to one single conclusion on a way to stop the ability. At that point we wanted to give up. Javier was saying, "We can't beat this guy anymore. He found our weakness and took advantage of it. I think it's time to give...." and at the point it dawned on me. There is a card in the game that allows you to switch abilities with your opponent. Once we used this card, anyone playing an Andre design could not get the ability back due to a discarding effect that they would not be able to fulfill. At that point we knew just how to take advantage of a situation that was bad for us and make it go in our favor. If we use that card, we take advantage of the opponent, and that's just what you need to do in the game of Raw Deal. Once you see mistakes by an opponent or find the weaknesses to them you can target that weakness and use it to win the game.

This was not to obvious to us at first, but with a little bit of thinking and determination to find a way to avoid the problem, we found the solution. We thought of all possibilities we could use. We thought about every card that we could come up with and how they could help us. We had overlooked one card, but once we saw it and realized it worked then everything was good-to-go for us. This may all seem easy to some people, but for card players it truly is a challenge to overcome.
